Paci Progress

Yes, we wandered last Wednesday, and, yes, I still want to post a bit about Carnaval... It's just that I either have a bunch of things I want to post about or nothing at all. I can't seem to find a nice "middle ground." I also have more pictures and video I want to share... So, I will start with a Paci update and then see how long my "angels" nap... Oops!! Looks like I just jinxed myself... Alex is up and crying... and now Connor as well.

Okay, let me see if a few crackers will hold them over long enough to get a quick Paci update done.

As you may recall, we decided to stop the Paci's last Tuesday after a terrible afternoon nap. That first night wasn't too bad and we were hopeful that our luck would continue. Wednesday nap time: both boys were asleep in 15 minutes... Wednesday bedtime, Alex fell asleep rather quickly but Connor took and hour and twenty minutes. The rest of the weeks nap and bed times have been variable with Alex doing MUCH better than Connor.

Here we were so worried about Alex and how he was going to cope, and Connor is the one having problems. Alex will occasionally look for or ask about his Paci, but seems content enough when told it's "all gone." Putting him to bed is no more difficult than it was with the Paci. Connor has gone backward and cannot self soothe very well. He seems to have trouble calming down at night and will cry and fuss and demand to be held. He is also becoming attached to his agua and asks for it repeatedly at bedtime. Almost as if he is trying to replace the Paci with his sippy cup, but it's just not the same.

Another unexpected, and not so fun, result of quitting the Paci is that the boys are sleeping less. At bedtime they fall asleep later than normal and wake up an hour to an hour and a half earlier than usual. They also take longer to fall asleep at naptime, and have yet to nap as long as before. Probably not as annoying for them as it is for their parents, but we are hoping they adjust back to longer sleep times soon. We certainly need the break even if they don't.

So, how is it going? I suppose it's okay overall. It could have been much worse, right? We will finish out the first week and then go from there. At least we are doing it now and not 6 months from now when they might have been even more attached... let's hope it actually benefits Alex's teeth which is why we started this in the first place. Now, I better go make some lunch before the natives get REALLY restless...
