Wandering Wednesdays - The Premiere

We get so caught up in our life at home with the boys, that we don't really get out much. Plus, we seem to lack the energy and motivation to go any further than the next town or nearest playground when we finally do go out.....

After 7 months of living here, we have decided that we really should start seeing more of what Tenerife has to offer. We picked Wednesdays because it's that great middle of the week day that always seems so long, I don't have class on Wednesdays, and because it's not the weekend. So, weather permitting, we will try our best to get out and wander at least once a week...

Today we headed to the north side of the island. Jaime was in search of a particular "vista" he had seen in a photograph and it was a drive over the mountain that he hadn't taken in over 20 years. We left a little after noon, just in time for the boys nap.
We started out from our place in Tabaiba and headed towards El Draguillo (25 miles) stopping in Roque de las Bodegas, Benijo, and many vista points along the way.

Views of the drive over the mountain:

Overlooking the town and the area we were heading to:

Driving along the coast:

While admiring the drive and the views, we stopped in Benijo to take a picture and noticed we were next to a restaurant. So, we decided it was time for lunch. We had cerveza (beer), conejo (rabbit), chocos (cuttlefish), and patatas (potatoes). Here is a picture of our table, the location of our restaurant, and our delicious food, as well as a short video from the terrace. If you look towards the bottom of the video or the second picture, you will see the stairs leading from the restaurant to the beach.

After lunch, we took the single lane dirt road and continued on to El Draguillo which is really just a small cluster of homes in the middle of nowhere. From there, we took the boys on a small hike to get a little closer to the big "rock" in the ocean. Can you see our shadows in the bottom picture?
Some of the flora on our walk:
All that exercise made us hungry for some ice cream. So, we went back to Roque de las Bodegas and enjoyed the view from another little place while eating our frozen treats.

We finally decided to call it a successful first Wandering Wednesday and headed back home.

"I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in." ~John Muir

Brings back memories that put us back in heaven. You took pics from many of the same places we did and they look just as good. Absolutely breathtaking views. How about those straight wide interstate highways to get there? *snicker snicker*
