Coloring Eggs!

I pretty much love all holidays and all the fun things to do because of them - especially now that we have kiddos. Last year the boys were much too young to color eggs, but this year I decided they should give it a try.

All we needed were the supplies... I already had food coloring and the "recipe" to make the dye, but the challenge was to find some white eggs. You see, pretty much all of the eggs over here are brown. We looked in every store that we stopped in, but there were none to be found. Luckily, I have a great mother-in-law (MIL). She also looked in several stores with no luck, and then, finally, she had to go to her "secret" supplier... She even had to "fight" another woman for some white eggs that were, literally, straight from the farm. Of course she won, and brought us a bucket with 12 beautiful, slightly muddy, and mostly white eggs. Woo Hoo!!!!

Back at our place, while the boys napped, I washed and hard boiled the eggs and then prepared the dye... five colors: red, green, orange, blue, and purple.

Later, after lunch, we colored our eggs. We were planning to do it outside in case of a mess, but it was too windy. So, we decided to let them try it indoors. They did great!! Both of them had fun dipping their spoons, eggs, and hands into the dyes, and they both thought it was fun and yummy to eat the colored vinegar water... we certainly have strange children.

In the end, only one egg got dropped and we were left with 11 beautiful (mostly purplish) eggs and four pretty hands.
I'd say it was a success!!

Love it! They did a great job! I'm kind of sad that we didn't get a chance to do it - just too much going on around Easter.
