Back to the Beach

This past Saturday Jaime found out that he had to go to the South of the Island to run an errand. So, the boys and I invited ourselves and tagged along. What might have been an ordinary trip turned into a fun afternoon/evening excursion.

After our errand, Jaime took us to El Médano ("Sand Dune") which is a small beach town with a beach (of course), a plaza, and many bars and cafés. Normally a place with winds so strong they hold world championship windsurfing competitions, we were lucky to enjoy a calm beautiful day. We walked around a bit and then stopped in a sidewalk bar for a beer and to feed the boys.

A side note: The Bay of El Médano was the last stop for provisions for Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano during their circumnavigation of the world.

Anyhow, after our little 'break', we drove around La Montaña Roja (The Red Mountain), a protected natural preserve, to explore another beach and to let the boys run free. They had a GREAT time!! Both Alex and Connor ran straight for the water without concern for the waves or the depth. We had to hold them back!

They played and played in the water and the sand. Connor figured out that he could chase the water back into the ocean... until the waves turned around on him and chased him back onto the shore. Alex had fun splashing around and tasting the sand.

They played and played and ran and ran until they were so tired they could hardly stand up. It started to get late, so we took them back to the car to dry off, change, and head back home. The boys crashed almost immediately. Since they had sand in every crevice and hadn't eaten in hours, we planned to shower and feed them before bed... but they could not be awakened, so they went to bed dirty and probably hungry, but very tired and happy.

That is so cute! I love the last video of Alex (?) running on the beach leaving his baby foot prints in the sand!

That is so perfect though...I would love to be near the beach with local cafes, bars, shops, resturaunts, etc...The weather looks cold?? How is it? And how's the water??

The weather here is a bit like your part of CA (SF Bay Area). Warm/nice in the daytime and cooler in the evenings when the winds come in over the water and through the mountains. They say it's eternal spring here in Tenerife. The water is a bit warmer than the Bay Area though, probably more like So. Cal. Brisk/chilly, but you get used to it once you are in.
