As promised, here is a little video about what we've been doing lately. A visit with friends, a trip to Loro Parque, and then mostly just hanging out around town and around the house. We did do a forest/beach weekend, but that's for the next post...

To Wander or Not to Wander...
Jaime had a plan for our outing yesterday, but then it rained... So, we thought we would try again today and make our Wandering Wednesday a Traveling Thursday....
The morning looked clear and perfect, if you looked out our back window...But out the front, the skies looked much more cloudy and gray...and, not long after breakfast, it rained again. It rained on and off all day and then poured and thundered all evening. So, we wandered around the house today doing house stuff and playing with the boys. Maybe we will get to wander next Wednesday instead...
On another note, we have been attending some Carnaval events and plan on going to a couple more if the weather cooperates, and then I will do a full report. In the meantime, I leave you with a few random pictures from the past couple weeks:

A post before our trip
So, we've been keeping things a little "low key" lately since we will be traveling to the States on Tuesday. We have either been hanging around the house, wandering around town, or entertaining guests. Here are a couple of our favorite pictures from the past week...
The boys like bananas so much that we have to get them in "bulk."

Actually, the most important product here (after tourism) is the banana. Inland, the land is dominated by banana plantations. The variety grown in the canaries is the dwarf banana, brought in the mid nineteenth century from Asia. It is smaller, sweeter, and has a more intense flavor than the varieties produced elsewhere. These are the bananas from the tree at our place.
Of course, bubbles are always popular... at least for the first few minutes. Here the boys are trying to catch them in their mouths.
Like most children, Alex and Connor LOVE anything they aren't suppose to have. Connor took Aunt Nuria's sunglasses, so I had to give Alex mine. Good thing we know better than to buy expensive shades.
On Friday, we hosted a fiesta out on our patio featuring a few Tex-Mex favorites. We served homemade chips, salsa, guacamole, queso, tortilla soup, chicken enchiladas, tacos, spanish rice, refried beans, and, of course, margaritas. Everyone seemed to enjoy the dinner (as evidenced by the disaster in our kitchen), and most of our guests didn't leave until 4:00 a.m... good thing the boys decided to sleep in until almost 9:00 the next morning.
I finally had a chance to start packing for our trip today. The boys heard we were headed on another adventure and jumped right in the suitcase...
So, our next post should be from Dallas. Hopefully it will be an uneventful flight this time around.

Hodge Podge - Lots o' Pictures
We haven't been up to a whole lot lately so we will report on a bunch of little things instead.
My Spanish classes began this week. The Education Authority didn't approve the intensive course, so I go to go to school Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternate Fridays. The Authority did not send the school all the teachers it needed, but we have our teacher for Spanish. I guess the school didn't want to delay things any further. So far it's very basic... the alphabet, Spanish sounds, and some vocabulary.
About a week ago we received a box from the States with various items we were in need of. One being Sippy Cups for the boys. We then picked a day, put away all the bottles, and switched to the cups. Cold Turkey. We were worried the boys wouldn't eat much while they learned, but they did beautifully!! Jaime and I were prepared for days of whining, starving babies, but it just never happened. Whew! They didn't skip a beat and are eating and drinking like champs. So far we haven't found anything they won't eat and they are even attempting to feed themselves with a spoon...
Also in the box were the wonderful Swimways Baby Spring Floats. These are much better floats than we were using and the boys seem to like them as well. They are not EU approved so we couldn't buy them here. We like them because they are more comfortable for the boys, harder to tip, have a sun shade, and they keep the boys closer to the water.
Other than that, we have been mostly hanging out. Playing with bubbles, balls, household stuff and toys, going to the park, and watching hang gliders go by our apartment. We stopped at the beach last Sunday after breakfast and the boys had fun collecting rocks. We also went to lunch with the family to celebrate Jaime's brother, Arturo's, birthday.
If the Spanish consulate in California ever sends our matrimony papers here, I will be able to officially get my ID and then we will do more stuff (residents with an ID get half off just about everything and we like to save money). So, until next time...We're outta here!

Life in the Kid Lane
Hard to believe we have been in Tenerife for 5 weeks now. It doesn't seem that long ago we were packing up our apartment and still hanging out in Dallas. The boys are 10 months and 6 days old already and always entertaining.
Alex finally started crawling with his tummy off the floor earlier this week, he can now stand up and get back down without falling, he can sit up all by himself, and he is sprouting a couple of top teeth. He recently discovered his bellybutton and loves to lick the patio door and anything else he can get his mouth on.
Connor continues to add bumps and bruises to his collection and they always seem to be on his face. He is walking around everywhere and is getting faster and faster by the day. He even knows how to make sharp turns and walk over objects without falling.
We take them to to pool as often as we can. Not only because it's fun, but also because it helps all of us stay sane now that their 3rd nap is gone. Bubbles are a big hit with the boys as I imagine they are with most children. We also started brushing their teeth yesterday with a "real" toothbrush and baby toothpaste. They seemed to like it!! Let's hope it stays that way.
Tomorrow is Nuria's, Jaime's sister, 40th birthday so there will be a party here this afternoon. Otherwise, not too much else going on. We are going to try to start taking one day a week and heading out to be tourists. Maybe we will start this Wednesday... and see how the boys manage.
